Hi, I'm Ed Morley
My wife and I have lived in Glen Rock for 28 years. We have two sons who graduated from the Glen Rock school system. I retired in 2025. The early part of my career was in urban planning, but most of it was in commercial insurance in New York. I have been on the Glen Rock Planning Board for four years (Chair in 2025), and over the past year I have been the Planning Board liaison to the Environmental Commission. I am also a volunteer with the New York New Jersey Trail Conference, Habitat for Humanity, and the Threefold Community Farm in Chestnut Ridge, NY. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, reading history, gardening and learning to play the tin whistle.
Why I'm Running
At college I studied economics, and at graduate school at Rutgers I studied city and regional planning. My prior service to the Borough, my education and career in urban planning in northern NJ and commercial insurance provide me with a good background to join the Council.
Given the heavy property tax burden Glen Rockers bear, seeking ways to stabilize and reduce the long-term costs of local government, while maintaining our high-quality public services, is the primary obligation of Council members. Through my service on the Environmental Commission, I have been studying policy options that can lead to shared services that can lower costs while also protecting public heath and safety. I am running for Council to try to enact some of these policies. We also need to continuously explore grant funding to shift some costs from the local property tax. In addition, we should lobby the state to shift some education costs from the local property tax to more efficient statewide revenue sources.
